Grounds maintenance
Our grounds maintenance service covers all Ongo owned land. Here you can find more information about the schedule of these works.
Grounds maintenance schedule
There is work ongoing throughout the cutting season, running from February to March (weather permitting) to October to November. We also maintain areas during the winter period too, from November to February. The types of work for each season are listed below.
March to April – October to November
- Amenity/Open Space Grass Cuts – cut and fly*
- Litter Picking – pick every visit (prior to grass cut)
- Hedges/shrubs – where they are obstructing walkways
A total of 16 grass cuts will take place per year as part of the schedule between March and November, this is weather dependent.
*Please note, all areas except retirement and specialist schemes will receive a cut and fly service (this a where the grass is cut and left to help feed the soil). Retirement and specialist schemes pay a premium for a cut and collect service.
It is important to note that during the period between March and August all work to hedges and shrubs will be carried out to cause minimum disturbance to nesting birds and wildlife in compliance with the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 and Birds Nesting legislation.
November to February
- Hedges/Shrubs – hard prune between November and February
- Leaf clearance – one collection in November, and one collection in January
Please note: No hedge maintenance will be completed if there are visible signs of birds nesting as per the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981
