Social Value

On this page you’ll find information about how you can help us to positively support communities through social value.

What is social value?

When organisations work with us, they often agree to make a social value contribution as part of their contract. This might be funding, resources, or time that can be used to support local people, communities, and the environment.

We turn these commitments into practical projects that make a real difference locally – creating jobs, supporting young people, improving wellbeing, and investing in greener neighbourhoods.

Over £260,000

Donated by external grants in 2024/2025.

1065

People supported by social value in 2024/2025.

24 million

Social value generated in 2024/2025.

A key way we deliver social value is through Ongo Recruitment, our social enterprise employment agency.

Using social value funding, Ongo Recruitment:

  • Creates paid jobs and apprenticeships
  • Connects local people with opportunities
  • Supports individuals to succeed and stay in work.

This means social value directly supports people into employment and helps build stronger local careers, not just short‑term opportunities.

Social value funding helps us deliver a range of activities, including:

  • Jobs and skills – employment, apprenticeships, and workforce development
  • Green projects – environmental improvements, greener spaces, and sustainability
  • Schools and young people – careers talks, workshops, and pathways into work.

These projects are shaped by local insight and designed to create long‑term benefits.

We use the HACT Social Value Insight Tool to measure the impact of our work. This allows us to show, in clear and simple terms, how social value contributions improve lives, support communities, and benefit the environment.

Social value helps ensure that:

  • Communities receive meaningful support
  • People gain jobs, skills, and confidence
  • Young people are inspired about their future
  • Environmental improvements are made locally

By working together, we turn social value contributions into real opportunities, real impact, and real change.

Hales & Coultas and Ashbridge Roofing donation to Myos House

Residents of the Myos House Dementia Care Scheme came together in a joyful celebration of VE Day with a 1940s-themed picnic event filled with music, memories, and laughter. Entertainment was provided by a talented singer and pianist from The Lost Chord, who performed wartime favourites and nostalgic tunes, bringing smiles to the faces of the residents and even providing instruments to encourage them to get involved.

The musical duo were generously sponsored by Ashbridge Roofing and Hales & Coultas, whose support helped make the event especially memorable.

Guests enjoyed a traditional 1940s picnic, featuring classic favourites such as Spam, corned beef, and cucumber finger sandwiches, along with a selection of cakes. The table settings came complete with individual ration books put together by a member of Myos House staff.

The celebration provided a heart-warming opportunity for residents to connect and reminisce, creating a true sense of community whilst honouring the spirit of the era.

Flowers

Marsh and Switch2 partnered with Ongo

Staff from Marsh and Switch2 joined forces with Ongo colleagues to provide some TLC to the communal arches at Beauchamp Walk.

Following several hours of painting, the walls are free of graffiti and looking much nicer. The Neighbourhood Services team will be finishing off the painting in the high up, hard to reach areas and we can’t wait to see the finished product!

Charlotte from Marsh then joined some Ongo colleagues to plant some flowers in the newly installed planters on the Westcliff estate, adding a pop of colour to the area!

EmpowerHER

7 women eager to improve their skills and confidence undertaking household maintenance tasks attended the EmpowerHER course put on by Equans on Tuesday 9th September.

The group discussed key tools and their uses, looked at the different tasks they could complete around the house and when you need to call in a professional and even got to try removing and re-fitting door handles.

All participants got a brand new toolkit to take away and put their new found knowledge into practice.

Samantha said “Going forward I won’t have to rely on calling people in for smaller jobs, I’ll be more confident in future.”

It was great to be able to offer this session for women to increase their skills, build confidence and meet new people.
