Domestic abuse support
We recognise the impact that domestic abuse can have on a family and their household, and will take account of this when taking action in relation to Ongo Homes tenancies.
We are committed to delivering a service that will protect all of our customers and their families from harm.
Anyone can experience domestic abuse regardless of gender, race, ethnicity or religious group, class, disability or lifestyle. Domestic abuse also affects children, nearly 90% of domestic abuse is witnessed or heard by children.
Domestic abuse can take place in heterosexual, lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and transgender relationships. We accept that both men and women can be victims of domestic abuse. All victims irrelevant of their gender or sexual orientation will be dealt with sensitively and in a person centred manner.
- 1 in 4 women and 1 in 6 men will experience domestic abuse in their lifetime.
- Two women a week and 30 men per year are murdered by their ex or current partner in the UK.
- Every minute the police receive a phone call regarding domestic abuse and domestic abuse accounts for between 16% and one quarter of all recorded violent crime
Ongo is committed to the principle that domestic abuse is unacceptable and that everyone has a right to live free from fear and abuse. We accept that for many victims it can take repeated incidents before they seek support, however, we believe that each incidence of domestic abuse is a serious matter. We will therefore work with our tenants, future tenants and staff members who are experiencing domestic abuse for the first time, as well as those who are repeat victims.
We will ensure that those suffering domestic abuse are provided with a fair, victim centered, confidential and consistent level of service within the constraints of current legislation and the resources available to us.
